What to ask before you buy a POS system
A point of sale system is a small purchase next to the sales it can stop. Before you pay, ask the seller to demonstrate these five points with your own products.
1. Test it without internet
Sell two items while the connection is off. Then restore the connection and confirm that the sales sync. If every scan needs the internet, the shop stops when the modem restarts.
2. Test a power cut
Switch the plug off, wait, and switch it on. The till and the receipt printer should come back without a technician. Ask for a UPS in the quote for the till, the printer and the router.
3. Check a POS Systems receipt
Ask to see a receipt for an item with the tax you charge. Month-end problems usually start when the till and the sales record were never set up together.
4. Add a product yourself
If only the vendor can add a price, you cannot run the shop day to day. Time how long a new cashier takes to process a return. That is the training included in the price.
5. Ask who answers on a Saturday
Get a name and a phone or WhatsApp number, and ask whether site visits are included or charged as a call-out. A low licence fee still needs a person who can help when the till stops.
Slotweb sets up retail systems around these five checks. If your current till fails one of them, contact us and describe the problem.
